In today’s gear breakdown, we’re going deep on the Spot Hogg Boonie sight, the latest evolution of Spot Hogg’s lineup, and a potential replacement for the Fast Eddie series. I first got a look at this sight at Shot Show and have been shooting with it since. It’s lighter, more versatile, and has a ton of new features built with hunters in mind. Here’s what makes the Boonie worth checking out:

Lighter Weight, Same Durability

The Boonie is about 10% lighter than the old Fast Eddie XL. Mine weighed in at 13.4 oz, compared to 14.2 oz for the XL, which doesn’t sound like much, but you can definitely feel it in the hand. That little bit of weight savings can make a difference when you’re carrying your gear deep into the backcountry.

Versatile Swappable Bases

Unlike its predecessors, the Boonie gives you more versatility with swappable bases. You can easily swap out your short bridge lock base for a Picatinny mount without needing an entirely new sight, which is a game-changer for those wanting to switch setups. A couple of screws, and you’re good to go. I’ve got mine mounted on my Mathews bow using the short bridge lock base, but the fact that I can swap to a Picatinny or a hard mount means it’s flexible for different hunting styles.

Dial System Redesign

One of my favorite updates on the Boonie is the new dial system. It’s a bit smaller but built smarter. The inset wheel makes it easy to lock down, and the new true lock mechanism keeps your sight steady. If you’re in the field and need to adjust quickly—say, you spot a bull elk at a different range—you can back off the tension without losing precision. The adjustable tension is perfect for keeping your dial firm when you need it, but still allowing quick movement for on-the-fly adjustments.

Interchangeable Wheels for Different Arrows

A cool feature on the Boonie is that you can actually swap out the wheels on the dial system. If you’re the kind of guy that likes to shoot different arrows for different hunts, you can have a separate wheel for each setup. You can fine-tune the wheel’s alignment without messing with your sight pointers, which is an awesome feature for those who want ultimate precision.

Better Windage Bar & Ergonomics

The windage bar has been upgraded significantly—it’s more solid, more precise, and the clicks are more defined. Unlike the old models where it felt a bit flimsy, the Boonie’s windage adjustments are strong, and you can feel every click clearly. Plus, they’ve added direction indicators, so you don’t end up adjusting in the wrong direction.

Protected Internal Gearing

Spot Hogg also made some improvements to protect the internal gearing. Compared to the old Fast Eddie models, the Boonie’s gears are better shielded from dirt and brush, which is a huge plus for staying out in rough terrain without worrying about gunk interfering with your setup.

Compatible with All Spot Hogg Housings

The Boonie is also fully compatible with Spot Hogg’s various housing options—single pin, double pin, triple stack, five pin, seven pin—you name it, it works. This level of versatility is what makes Spot Hogg sights feel like “Legos for hunters.” You can put together your sight just the way you want it.

Micro & Macro Adjustments

They’ve redesigned the quick disconnect and the second and third axis adjustments, making them easier to use. Setting up the sight for perfect level is now more straightforward, especially with the revamped second axis, which allows you to level the rail first and then move onto the scope housing. This ensures your pins track accurately at all ranges.

Final Thoughts

The Spot Hogg Boonie brings in a lot of excellent upgrades—less weight, better locking mechanisms, adjustable bases, and an enhanced dial and windage system. The option to swap out pointers, the ability to use any of Spot Hogg’s housings, and the overall versatility make it a killer addition to your hunting rig.

If you’re in the market for a sight that delivers flexibility, precision, and ease of use, the Boonie is one to seriously consider. It’s built to last, with everything a serious bowhunter could need.
