Versatile Precision: The New HHA XV3 Vertical 3-Pin Housing
If you’ve been in the archery game for a while, you know the classic trade-off with multi-pin housings. Typically, those bottom pins—the ones you rely on for longer distances—end up buried at the very bottom of the housing. The bottom pin is just harder to see, makes long-range accuracy a chore, and usually leads us to recommend 3-pin setups only for the tree stand and whitetail hunters.
That’s all changing with the HHA XV3. Whether you’re a Western backcountry hunter or a Midwest whitetail enthusiast, this housing is a legitimate game-changer.
Total Vertical Control
The standout feature of the XV3 is that all three pins are fully adjustable. In most housings, pins are fixed in a way that forces your long-distance pin into the “basement” of your sight picture. With the XV3, you can move all three pins closer to the center of the housing. By bringing that bottom pin higher up into the center of the glass, you gain a much clearer, more confident sight picture allowing you to be more accurate at distance.
Adjusting the pins is a breeze:
- Loosen the Set Screw: Use a 1/16″ hex key on the side of the housing. A quick quarter-turn is all it takes.
- Dial it In: Use a 5/64″ hex key to move each individual pin vertically.
- Lock it Down: Once your gaps are set, snug that set screw back up, and you’re rock solid.
A Cleaner Sight Picture
HHA didn’t just stop at the pins; they overhauled the housing architecture. The XV3 is slightly larger than the previous X3 model, which is a massive win for shooters using larger peeps. More housing real estate means more light and a faster, more natural alignment.
They also relocated the Rheostat. On previous models, the rheostat sat in the front, requiring several turns to expose the fibers. The XV3 moves it to the back of the housing. A simple quarter turn adjusts your pin brightness.
Custom Pin Configurations at S&S Archery
Because of our close relationship with HHA, we’ve developed a custom pin setup specifically for the Nitrix and Nitrix Pro lines that we believe is the gold standard for 3-pin shooting:

Why this setup? By putting that ultra-fine .010 green pin on the bottom and using the XV3’s adjustment to move it higher in the housing, you get surgical accuracy for long-distance shots without the pin “covering” your target.
Note: We stock these custom configurations whenever possible, but we also carry the standard HHA “Green-Red-Green” stock options in .019 or .010 if you prefer the classics.
